MASS AND BLESSING OF THE HANDS FOR TEACHERS
The Cenacle Retreat House will host a special Mass and Blessing of the Hands Ceremony for Teachers on Sunday, August 21, 2005 at 11:00 a.m., at the Cenacle Retreat House Chapel, 5500 St. Mary Street , Metairie. Light refreshments will follow. For more information, call at (504) 887-1420.

PARISH NEWS
• Pray the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet every morning in the Cry Room in the Church. Monday through Saturday, at 7:30 a.m.
SCHOOL OF RELIGION REGISTRATION
Beginning August 1st, registration will be accepted for students in Grades 1 through 8, who are not receiving religious instruction in their regular school. We also are registering high school students for classes. Grade 1 through 8 meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:45 pm, with the first class starting on Tuesday, September 13th. High School students meet on Sunday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., beginning on Sunday, Sep. 11th. Registration materials and information are available at the Parish Center from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
PARISH HIGH SCHOOL OF RELIGION
Students enrolled in high school not receiving religious instruction should register to participate in our high school program of religious instruction, which classes take place on Sunday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. It is important that those students preparing to receive Confirmation in the 11th Grade be prepared through participating in a catechetical program during the 9th, 10th and 11th grades, as well as the 12th grade. Registration can be made throughout the month of August at the Parish Center.

Wanted: People of growing faith, who are looking for challenging, creative opportunities to share the Catholic faith in educational settings. Grades 1 through 12 . . . just a few hours per week . . . excellent benefits (Matthew 25) . . . small class groupings . . . most youngsters eager to learn . . . zealous group of catechists as colleagues . . . no age limit . . . faith-filled and desire to spread the Good News desired. GRANDPARETNS RAISING GRANDCHILDREN SUPPORT GROUP
This support group gives grandparents the opportunity to exchange information and ideas that can help them in their role of caregivers for their grandchildren, on Tuesday, August 23rd from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Chalmette (305 E. St. Bernard Hwy.) in the first small brick building across from church at 405 LaSalle. Attendance is free and open to all grandparents playing a primary role in the raising of their grandchildren. To register, call the Clinical Solutions Program of Catholic Charities, St. Bernard Office at 279-7636.

Have you or someone you know considered becoming a Catholic and just don't know how? RCIA is the way! The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is for everyone who wants to learn more about Catholicism. Those wishing to join our faith, as well as those baptized Catholics wishing to be confirmed, are welcome. Come join us to ask questions and learn more about the RCIA process at Inquiry Sessions currently meeting at the Parish Center. Encourage that friend or family member curious about our faith. THE ROCK
Peter was Jesus' choice to lead the fragile band of Apostles. In today's Gospel, Simon is given a new name — Peter, the "rock." In John's Gospel, Peter is called to be a shepherd. He is expected to lay down his life for his sheep. And tradition tells us that he did just that. But today we think about the durable rocklike quality that Jesus needed in a leader.
Peter was appointed to his leadership position for reasons we are not able to fathom. God knows, and Jesus knew well, that Peter was flawed. We cannot mistake his enthusiasms, though, his manifest love, and his great, exuberant faith. Those virtues saw him through. They are durable, tough, beautiful virtues. They make Peter a sympathetic and lovable person. They provide us with the balance and humor that we need as we consider our own roles in the universal church.

In order to serve our community better, we would like to let you know when the due date is for our bulletin announcements:
• Flyers need to be approved by Fr. Ralph and brought to the Parish Center by 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, the week prior to sending it out.
• Deadline for bulletin news is 2 - 3 weeks before the bulletin is sent out. The deadline for the bulletin of September 11, 2005 is Thursday August 25, 2005 by 1 p.m.
• Deadline for the Weekend Mass Intentions is Thursday before the weekend at 1 p.m. Thank you for your cooperation.
